Zinedine Zidane has informed his superiors at Real Madrid that he wants the club to sign Nabil Fekir from Olympique Lyon, according to Daily Record.

Fekir came very close to joining Liverpool last year. The deal between the clubs had been agreed, as well as the personal terms between Liverpool and Fekir. Even his first interview in a Liverpool shirt was recorded – when the Merseysiders suddenly pulled out of the whole business due to a knee problem the extent of which was discovered during Fekir’s medical.

With only a year remaining on his current deal, the World Cup winner will apparently be allowed to leave Lyon this summer, and Real are set to make their move.

The Champions League holders, who won’t be able to defend that title after getting stopped in their tracks by Ajax, have recently sacked Santiago Solari and reappointed Zidane, and the Frenchman, a World Cup winner himself, reportedly wanted transfer funds and free hands in picking players in the market.
