Aston Villa have become one of the favorites to sign Eric Dier from Tottenham Hotspur in January, according to Birmingham Mail.

Having spent over £130 million on fresh signings over the summer in order to prepare themselves for life in the Premier League, the newly promoted side have started the campaign relatively well. After eight rounds, they sit 15th with eight points, but the eight teams above them are all within a four-point gap. Nonetheless, Villa are looking to add quality and experience to their ranks, and one of the Spurs midfielder is among the options they’re considering for the next transfer window.

Having started out at Sporting Lisbon, Dier arrived to north London in 2014, and he has so far accumulated 210 appearances and 11 goals under his belt for the club. However, with the arrival of Tanguy Ndombele this summer for a fee of £55 million plus add-ons, Dier’s place in the team has become very questionable. So far he has played only three times this season, with Harry Winks the preferred choice for boss Mauricio Pochettino to pair up with Ndombele in the middle of the park.
